I created portraits based on various textiles, such as houndstooth, which is a traditional Scottish pattern. This textile was originally form of camoflauge, which is why it's always black and white. I wanted to remix the colors, so I turned the model into a "La Catrina," a colorful symbol of Day of the Dead who represents the cycle of life and death.
